(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, SEPT 1 - Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi "has decided to grant land on which to build" a children's hospital called Ospedale Bambino Gesù del Cairo.

The hospital will be linked to the top-ranked children's hospital in Europe, Ospedale Bambino Gesu in Rome.

The Bambino Gesù del Cairo association sent a statement making this announcement to ANSA.

The hospital will be built in a new "administrative capital" that will be built east of Cairo and will host, in addition to ministries and institutions, also 7 million inhabitants, according to the statement.

Alongside the Oasi della Pietà shelter, the hospital is one of the two projects in Egypt under Monsignor Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, head of the association and previously Pope Francis's personal secretary as well as a member of the High Committee for Human Fraternity.

The initiative was taken "in line with the contents of the document on Human Fraternity for Peace and Living Together signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by the pope and Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmad Al-Tayyib.

The patriarch of the Coptic Church in Egypt, Ibrahim Isaak, "expressed his gratitude" to Sisi for having granted the land, the statement noted. (ANSAmed).
